Sura: AN-NĀZI‘ĀT 

Aya : 21

فَكَذَّبَ وَعَصَىٰ

But he [i.e., Pharaoh] denied and disobeyed.



Sura: AN-NĀZI‘ĀT 

Aya : 22

ثُمَّ أَدۡبَرَ يَسۡعَىٰ

Then he turned his back, striving [i.e., plotting].[1]


1- An alternative meaning is "running [from the snake]."


Sura: AN-NĀZI‘ĀT 

Aya : 23

فَحَشَرَ فَنَادَىٰ

And he gathered [his people] and called out.



Sura: AN-NĀZI‘ĀT 

Aya : 24

فَقَالَ أَنَا۠ رَبُّكُمُ ٱلۡأَعۡلَىٰ

And said, "I am your most exalted lord."



Sura: AN-NĀZI‘ĀT 

Aya : 25

فَأَخَذَهُ ٱللَّهُ نَكَالَ ٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ وَٱلۡأُولَىٰٓ

So AllŒh seized him in exemplary punishment for the last and the first [transgression].[1].


1- i.e., for Pharaoh's setting himself up as a deity and for his previous oppression of the people and denial of Moses.


Sura: AN-NĀZI‘ĀT 

Aya : 26

إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَعِبۡرَةٗ لِّمَن يَخۡشَىٰٓ

Indeed in that is a lesson [i.e., warning] for whoever would fear [AllŒh].



Sura: AN-NĀZI‘ĀT 

Aya : 27

ءَأَنتُمۡ أَشَدُّ خَلۡقًا أَمِ ٱلسَّمَآءُۚ بَنَىٰهَا

Are you a more difficult creation or is the heaven? He [i.e., AllŒh] constructed it.



Sura: AN-NĀZI‘ĀT 

Aya : 28

رَفَعَ سَمۡكَهَا فَسَوَّىٰهَا

He raised its ceiling and proportioned it.



Sura: AN-NĀZI‘ĀT 

Aya : 29

وَأَغۡطَشَ لَيۡلَهَا وَأَخۡرَجَ ضُحَىٰهَا

And He darkened its night and extracted its brightness.[1]


1- i.e., created the day from within the surrounding darkness.


Sura: AN-NĀZI‘ĀT 

Aya : 30

وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ بَعۡدَ ذَٰلِكَ دَحَىٰهَآ

And after that He spread the earth.



Sura: AN-NĀZI‘ĀT 

Aya : 31

أَخۡرَجَ مِنۡهَا مَآءَهَا وَمَرۡعَىٰهَا

He extracted from it its water and its pasture,



Sura: AN-NĀZI‘ĀT 

Aya : 32

وَٱلۡجِبَالَ أَرۡسَىٰهَا

And the mountains He set firmly



Sura: AN-NĀZI‘ĀT 

Aya : 33

مَتَٰعٗا لَّكُمۡ وَلِأَنۡعَٰمِكُمۡ

As enjoyment [i.e., provision] for you and your grazing livestock.



Sura: AN-NĀZI‘ĀT 

Aya : 34

فَإِذَا جَآءَتِ ٱلطَّآمَّةُ ٱلۡكُبۡرَىٰ

But when there comes the greatest Overwhelming Calamity[1]


1- i.e., the Day of Resurrection.


Sura: AN-NĀZI‘ĀT 

Aya : 35

يَوۡمَ يَتَذَكَّرُ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ مَا سَعَىٰ

The Day when man will remember that for which he strove,



Sura: AN-NĀZI‘ĀT 

Aya : 36

وَبُرِّزَتِ ٱلۡجَحِيمُ لِمَن يَرَىٰ

And Hellfire will be exposed for [all] those who see



Sura: AN-NĀZI‘ĀT 

Aya : 37

فَأَمَّا مَن طَغَىٰ

So as for he who transgressed



Sura: AN-NĀZI‘ĀT 

Aya : 38

وَءَاثَرَ ٱلۡحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنۡيَا

And preferred the life of the world,



Sura: AN-NĀZI‘ĀT 

Aya : 39

فَإِنَّ ٱلۡجَحِيمَ هِيَ ٱلۡمَأۡوَىٰ

Then indeed, Hellfire will be [his] refuge.



Sura: AN-NĀZI‘ĀT 

Aya : 40

وَأَمَّا مَنۡ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِۦ وَنَهَى ٱلنَّفۡسَ عَنِ ٱلۡهَوَىٰ

But as for he who feared the position of his Lord[1] and prevented the soul from [unlawful] inclination,

Sura: AN-NĀZI‘ĀT 

Aya : 41

فَإِنَّ ٱلۡجَنَّةَ هِيَ ٱلۡمَأۡوَىٰ

Then indeed, Paradise will be [his] refuge.



Sura: AN-NĀZI‘ĀT 

Aya : 42

يَسۡـَٔلُونَكَ عَنِ ٱلسَّاعَةِ أَيَّانَ مُرۡسَىٰهَا

They ask you, [O Muúammad], about the Hour: when is its arrival?[1]


1- Literally, "resting" or "establishment."


Sura: AN-NĀZI‘ĀT 

Aya : 43

فِيمَ أَنتَ مِن ذِكۡرَىٰهَآ

In what [position] are you that you should mention it?[1]


1- Meaning that Muúammad () had no knowledge of it, so how could he inform them?


Sura: AN-NĀZI‘ĀT 

Aya : 44

إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ مُنتَهَىٰهَآ

To your Lord is its finality.[1]


1- i.e., its destination and termination. And to Him belongs ultimate knowledge of it.


Sura: AN-NĀZI‘ĀT 

Aya : 45

إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مُنذِرُ مَن يَخۡشَىٰهَا

You are only a warner for those who fear it.



Sura: AN-NĀZI‘ĀT 

Aya : 46

كَأَنَّهُمۡ يَوۡمَ يَرَوۡنَهَا لَمۡ يَلۡبَثُوٓاْ إِلَّا عَشِيَّةً أَوۡ ضُحَىٰهَا

It will be, on the Day they see it,[1] as though they had not remained [in the world] except for an afternoon or a morning thereof.


1- i.e., the Hour, the Resurrection.


Sura: ‘ABASA 

Aya : 1

عَبَسَ وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ

He [i.e., the Prophet () ] frowned and turned away



Sura: ‘ABASA 

Aya : 2

أَن جَآءَهُ ٱلۡأَعۡمَىٰ

Because there came to him the blind man,[1] [interrupting].


1- ÔAbdullŒh, the son of Umm Makt´m.


Sura: ‘ABASA 

Aya : 3

وَمَا يُدۡرِيكَ لَعَلَّهُۥ يَزَّكَّىٰٓ

But what would make you perceive, [O Muúammad], that perhaps he might be purified[1]


1- As a result of what he learns from you.


Sura: ‘ABASA 

Aya : 4

أَوۡ يَذَّكَّرُ فَتَنفَعَهُ ٱلذِّكۡرَىٰٓ

Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him?
