But repentance is not [accepted] of those who [continue to] do evil deeds up until, when death comes to one of them, he says, "Indeed, I have repented now," or of those who die while they are disbelievers. For them We have prepared a painful punishment.

Whoever intercedes for a good cause will have a share [i.e., reward] therefrom; and whoever intercedes for an evil cause will have a portion [i.e., burden] therefrom. And ever is AllŒh, over all things, a Keeper.[1]

1- Providing, protecting, witnessing, keeping precise records and capable of recompense.

It [i.e., Paradise] is not [obtained] by your wishful thinking nor by that of the People of the Scripture. Whoever does a wrong will be recompensed for it, and he will not find besides AllŒh a protector or a helper.

سوره: AL‑AN‘ĀM

Whoever comes [on the Day of Judgement] with a good deed will have ten times the like thereof [to his credit], and whoever comes with an evil deed will not be recompensed except the like thereof; and they will not be wronged.[1]

1- i.e., treated unjustly.

But they who have earned [blame for] evil doings the recompense of an evil deed is its equivalent, and humiliation will cover them. They will have from AllŒh no protector. It will be as if their faces are covered with pieces of the night so dark [are they]. Those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide therein eternally.

But those who break the covenant of AllŒh after contracting it and sever that which AllŒh has ordered to be joined and spread corruption on earth for them is the curse, and they will have the worst home.[1]

1- i.e., Hell. Another meaning is (in contrast to verse 22), "...and they will have the bad consequence of [this] home," also referring to Hell.

So they were struck by the evil consequences of what they did and were enveloped by what they used to ridicule.

And whoever comes with an evil deed[1] their faces will be overturned into the Fire, [and it will be said], "Are you recompensed except for what you used to do?"

1- Without having repented. It may refer generally to any sin or more specifically to association of another with AllŒh.

Whoever comes [on the Day of Judgement] with a good deed will have better than it; and whoever comes with an evil deed then those who did evil deeds will not be recompensed except [as much as] what they used to do.

Then the end of those who did evil was the worst [consequence] because they denied the signs of AllŒh and used to ridicule them.

Whoever desires honor [through power] then to AllŒh belongs all honor.[1] To Him ascends good speech, and righteous work raises it.[2] But they who plot evil deeds will have a severe punishment, and the plotting of those it will perish.

1- See footnote to 4:139.
2- For acceptance by AllŒh, meaning that righteous deeds are confirmation and proof of what is uttered by the tongue.

This [is so]. But indeed, for the transgressors is an evil place of return

Whoever does an evil deed will not be recompensed except by the like thereof; but whoever does righteousness, whether male or female, while he is a believer those will enter Paradise, being given provision therein without account.

The Day their excuse will not benefit the wrongdoers, and they will have the curse, and they will have the worst home [i.e., Hell].

And the retribution for an evil act is an evil one like it, but whoever pardons and makes reconciliation his reward is [due] from AllŒh. Indeed, He does not like wrongdoers.

And the evil consequences of what they did will appear to them, and they will be enveloped by what they used to ridicule.

And [that] He may punish the hypocrite men and hypocrite women, and the polytheist men and polytheist women those who assume about AllŒh an assumption of evil nature. Upon them is a misfortune of evil nature; and AllŒh has become angry with them and has cursed them and prepared for them Hell, and evil it is as a destination.
