So remember Me; I will remember you. And be grateful to Me and do not deny Me.
O you who have believed, eat from the good [i.e., lawful] things which We have provided for you and be grateful to AllŒh if it is [indeed] Him that you worship.
Muúammad is not but a messenger. [Other] messengers have passed on before him. So if he was to die or be killed, would you turn back on your heels [to unbelief]? And he who turns back on his heels will never harm AllŒh at all; but AllŒh will reward the grateful.
And it is not [possible] for one to die except by permission of AllŒh at a decree determined. And whoever desires the reward of this world – We will give him thereof; and whoever desires the reward of the Hereafter – We will give him thereof. And We will reward the grateful.
And thus We have tried some of them through others that they [i.e., the disbelievers] might say, "Is it these whom AllŒh has favored among us?" Is not AllŒh most knowing of those who are grateful?[1]
1- Those referred to in verses 52-54 are the poor Muslims who were sincere believers and students of the Prophet (). The influential leaders of Quraysh had disdained to sit with them, saying to Prophet Muúammad (), "Perhaps if you evicted them, we would follow you."
And I have followed the religion of my fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. And it was not for us to associate anything with AllŒh. That is from the favor of AllŒh upon us and upon the people, but most of the people are not grateful. (39) O [my] two companions of prison, are separate lords better or AllŒh, the One,[ ] the Prevailing?[ ]
And [remember] when your Lord proclaimed, 'If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]; but if you deny, indeed, My punishment is severe.'"
Then eat of what AllŒh has provided for you [which is] lawful and good. And be grateful for the favor of AllŒh, if it is [indeed] Him that you worship.
[He was] grateful for His favors. He [i.e., AllŒh] chose him and guided him to a straight path.
So [Solomon] smiled, amused at her speech, and said, "My Lord, enable me[1] to be grateful for Your favor which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents and to do righteousness of which You approve. And admit me by Your mercy into [the ranks of] Your righteous servants."[2]
1- More literally, "gather within me the utmost strength and ability."
2- Or "with Your righteous servants [into Paradise]."
Said one who had knowledge from the Scripture, "I will bring it to you before your glance returns to you." And when [Solomon] saw it placed before him, he said, "This is from the favor of my Lord to test me whether I will be grateful or ungrateful. And whoever is grateful – his gratitude is only for [the benefit of] himself. And whoever is ungrateful – then indeed, my Lord is Free of need and Generous."
And indeed, your Lord is the possessor of bounty for the people, but most of them are not grateful."
You only worship, besides AllŒh, idols, and you produce a falsehood. Indeed, those you worship besides AllŒh do not possess for you [the power of] provision. So seek from AllŒh provision and worship Him and be grateful to Him. To Him you will be returned."
And We had certainly given LuqmŒn wisdom [and said], "Be grateful to AllŒh." And whoever is grateful is grateful for [the benefit of] himself. And whoever denies [His favor] – then indeed, AllŒh is Free of need and Praiseworthy.
And We have enjoined upon man [care] for his parents. His mother carried him, [increasing her] in weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years. Be grateful to Me and to your parents; to Me is the [final] destination.
Then He proportioned him and breathed into him from His [created] soul[1] and made for you hearing and vision and hearts [i.e., intellect]; little are you grateful.
1- i.e., element of life. See footnote to 15:29.
If you disbelieve – indeed, AllŒh is Free from need of you. And He does not approve for His servants disbelief. And if you are grateful, He approves [i.e., likes] it for you; and no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another. Then to your Lord is your return, and He will inform you about what you used to do. Indeed, He is Knowing of that within the breasts.
Rather, worship [only] AllŒh and be among the grateful.
It is AllŒh who made for you the night that you may rest therein and the day giving sight.[1] Indeed, AllŒh is the possessor of bounty for the people, but most of them are not grateful.
1- i.e., making things visible.
And We have enjoined upon man, to his parents, good treatment. His mother carried him with hardship and gave birth to him with hardship, and his gestation and weaning [period] is thirty months. [He grows] until, when he reaches maturity and reaches [the age of] forty years, he says, "My Lord, enable me[1] to be grateful for Your favor which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents and to work righteousness of which You will approve and make righteous for me my offspring. Indeed, I have repented to You, and indeed, I am of the Muslims."
1- Literally, "gather within me the utmost strength and ability."
