Capítulo: AN-NISĀ’

Verso : 15

Those who commit immorality [i.e., unlawful sexual intercourse] of your women bring against them four [witnesses] from among you. And if they testify,[1] confine them [i.e., the guilty women] to houses until death takes them or AllŒh ordains for them [another] way.[2]

1- The witnesses must swear to actually having seen the act taking place.
2- The "other way" (i.e., penalty) was later revealed in 24:2, canceling the ruling in this verse.

Capítulo: AN-NISĀ’

Verso : 16

And the two[1] who commit it [i.e., unlawful sexual intercourse] among you punish [i.e., dishonor] them both. But if they repent and correct themselves, leave them alone. Indeed, AllŒh is ever Accepting of Repentance and Merciful.

1- Scholars differ over whether "the two" refers to two of the same sex (i.e., homosexuals) or those of opposite sexes. In either case, later rulings outlined in the sunnah have replaced this one.

Capítulo: AN-NISĀ’

Verso : 22

And do not marry those [women] whom your fathers married, except what has already occurred.[1] Indeed, it was an immorality and hateful [to AllŒh] and was evil as a way.

1- Before IslŒm. After the ruling was revealed by AllŒh, men were required to release those women unlawful to them (e.g., a stepmother, one of two sisters, or any wives over the limit of four). The same obligation applies to one once he has accepted IslŒm.

Capítulo: AN-NISĀ’

Verso : 23

Prohibited to you [for marriage] are your mothers, your daughters, your sisters, your father's sisters, your mother's sisters, your brother's daughters, your sister's daughters, your [milk] mothers who nursed you, your sisters through nursing, your wives' mothers, and your step-daughters under your guardianship [born] of your wives unto whom you have gone in. But if you have not gone in unto them, there is no sin upon you. And [also prohibited are] the wives of your sons who are from your [own] loins, and that you take [in marriage] two sisters simultaneously, except for what has already occurred.[1] Indeed, AllŒh is ever Forgiving and Merciful.

1- See previous footnote.

Capítulo: AN-NISĀ’

Verso : 24

And [also prohibited to you are all] married women except those your right hands possess.[1] [This is] the decree of AllŒh upon you. And lawful to you are [all others] beyond these, [provided] that you seek them [in marriage] with [gifts from] your property, desiring chastity, not unlawful sexual intercourse. So for whatever you enjoy [of marriage] from them, give them their due compensation[2] as an obligation. And there is no blame upon you for what you mutually agree to beyond the obligation. Indeed, AllŒh is ever Knowing and Wise.

1- i.e., slaves or war captives who had polytheist husbands.
2- The mahr, a specified gift to the bride required of the man upon marriage.

Capítulo: AL‑MĀ’IDAH

Verso : 5

This day [all] good foods have been made lawful, and the food of those who were given the Scripture is lawful for you and your food is lawful for them. And [lawful in marriage are] chaste women from among the believers and chaste women from among those who were given the Scripture before you, when you have given them their due compensation,[1] desiring chastity, not unlawful sexual intercourse or taking [secret] lovers. And whoever denies the faith his work has become worthless, and he, in the Hereafter, will be among the losers.

1- The specified bridal gift (mahr).

Capítulo: AL‑AN‘ĀM

Verso : 151

Say, "Come, I will recite what your Lord has prohibited to you. [He commands] that you not associate anything with Him, and to parents, good treatment, and do not kill your children out of poverty; We will provide for you and them. And do not approach immoralities what is apparent of them and what is concealed. And do not kill the soul which AllŒh has forbidden [to be killed] except by [legal] right. This has He instructed you that you may use reason."

Capítulo: AL‑A‘RĀF

Verso : 28

And when they commit an immorality, they say, "We found our fathers doing it, and AllŒh has ordered us to do it." Say, "Indeed, AllŒh does not order immorality. Do you say about AllŒh that which you do not know?"

Capítulo: AL‑A‘RĀF

Verso : 33

Say, "My Lord has only forbidden immoralities what is apparent of them and what is concealed and sin,[1] and oppression without right, and that you associate with AllŒh that for which He has not sent down authority, and that you say about AllŒh that which you do not know."

1- Any unlawful deed.

Capítulo: AL‑A‘RĀF

Verso : 80

And [We had sent] Lot when he said to his people, "Do you commit such immorality as no one has preceded you with from among the worlds [i.e., peoples]?

Capítulo: AL‑A‘RĀF

Verso : 81

Indeed, you approach men with desire, instead of women. Rather, you are a transgressing people."

Capítulo: HŪD

Verso : 78

And his people came hastening to him, and before [this] they had been doing evil deeds.[1] He said, "O my people, these are my daughters;[2] they are purer for you. So fear AllŒh and do not disgrace me concerning my guests. Is there not among you a man of reason?"

1- Referring to their practice of sodomy and homosexual rape of males.
2- i.e., the women of his community who were available for marriage.

Capítulo: HŪD

Verso : 79

They said, "You have already known that we have not concerning your daughters [i.e., women] any claim [i.e., desire], and indeed, you know what we want."

Capítulo: YŪSUF

Verso : 23

And she, in whose house he was, sought to seduce him. She closed the doors and said, "Come, you." He said, "[I seek] the refuge of AllŒh. Indeed, he[1] is my master, who has made good my residence. Indeed, wrongdoers will not succeed."

1- Her husband, al-ÔAzeez.

Capítulo: YŪSUF

Verso : 24

And she certainly determined [to seduce] him, and he would have inclined to her had he not seen the proof [i.e., sign] of his Lord. And thus [it was] that We should avert from him evil and immorality. Indeed, he was of Our chosen servants.

Capítulo: AN-NAḤL

Verso : 90

Indeed, AllŒh orders justice and good conduct and giving [help] to relatives and forbids immorality and bad conduct and oppression. He admonishes you that perhaps you will be reminded.

Capítulo: AL‑ISRĀ’

Verso : 32

And do not approach unlawful sexual intercourse.[1] Indeed, it is ever an immorality and is evil as a way.

1- i.e., avoid all situations that might possibly lead to it.

Capítulo: AL‑ANBIYĀ’

Verso : 74

And to Lot We gave judgement and knowledge, and We saved him from the city that was committing wicked deeds. Indeed, they were a people of evil, defiantly disobedient.

Capítulo: AL‑MU’MINŪN

Verso : 7

But whoever seeks beyond that, then those are the transgressors

Capítulo: AN-NŪR

Verso : 2

The [unmarried] woman or [unmarried] man found guilty of sexual intercourse[1] lash each one of them with a hundred lashes,[2] and do not be taken by pity for them in the religion [i.e., law] of AllŒh,[3] if you should believe in AllŒh and the Last Day. And let a group of the believers witness their punishment.

1- Either by voluntary confession of the offender or the testimony of four male witnesses to having actually seen the act take place. Otherwise, there can be no conviction.
2- The ruling in this verse is applicable to unmarried fornicators. Execution by stoning is confirmed in the sunnah for convicted adulterers.
3- i.e., Do not let sympathy for a guilty person move you to alter anything ordained by AllŒh, for in His law is protection of society as a whole.

Capítulo: AN-NŪR

Verso : 3

The fornicator does not marry except a [female] fornicator or polytheist, and none marries her except a fornicator[1] or a polytheist, and that [i.e., marriage to such persons] has been made unlawful to the believers.

1- Included in this ruling is the adulterer as well. Such persons cannot be married to believers unless they have repented and reformed.

Capítulo: AL‑FURQĀN

Verso : 68

And those who do not invoke[1] with AllŒh another deity or kill the soul which AllŒh has forbidden [to be killed], except by right, and do not commit unlawful sexual intercourse. And whoever should do that will meet a penalty.

1- Or "worship."

Capítulo: AL‑FURQĀN

Verso : 69

Multiplied for him is the punishment on the Day of Resurrection, and he will abide therein humiliated

Capítulo: ASH-SHU‘ARĀ’

Verso : 165

Do you approach males among the worlds[1]

1- i.e., Are there, out of all AllŒh's creatures, any besides you who commit this unnatural act?

Capítulo: ASH-SHU‘ARĀ’

Verso : 166

And leave what your Lord has created for you as mates? But you are a people transgressing."

Capítulo: AN-NAML

Verso : 54

And [mention] Lot, when he said to his people, "Do you commit immorality[1] while you are seeing?[2]

1- Homosexual acts.
2- i.e., openly. Another meaning is "...while you are aware [that it is wrong]."

Capítulo: AN-NAML

Verso : 55

Do you indeed approach men with desire instead of women? Rather, you are a people behaving ignorantly."

Capítulo: AN-NAML

Verso : 56

But the answer of his people was not except that they said, "Expel the family of Lot from your city. Indeed, they are people who keep themselves pure."

Capítulo: AL‑‘ANKABŪT

Verso : 28

And [mention] Lot, when he said to his people, "Indeed, you commit such immorality as no one has preceded you with from among the worlds.

Capítulo: AL‑‘ANKABŪT

Verso : 29

Indeed, you approach men and obstruct the road[1] and commit in your meetings [every] evil." And the answer of his people was not but that they said, "Bring us the punishment of AllŒh, if you should be of the truthful."

1- i.e., commit highway robbery and acts of aggression against travelers.
