Sourate: AL‑BAQARAH

Verset : 143

And thus We have made you a median [i.e., just] community that you will be witnesses over the people and the Messenger will be a witness over you. And We did not make the qiblah which you used to face except that We might make evident who would follow the Messenger from who would turn back on his heels.[1] And indeed, it is difficult except for those whom AllŒh has guided. And never would AllŒh have caused you to lose your faith [i.e., your previous prayers]. Indeed AllŒh is, to the people, Kind and Merciful.

1- i.e., refuse.

Sourate: ĀLI ‘IMRĀN

Verset : 20

So if they argue with you, say, "I have submitted myself to AllŒh [in IslŒm], and [so have] those who follow me." And say to those who were given the Scripture and [to] the unlearned,[1] "Have you submitted yourselves?" And if they submit [in IslŒm], they are rightly guided; but if they turn away then upon you is only the [duty of] notification. And AllŒh is Seeing of [His] servants.

1- Those who had no scripture (i.e., the pagans).

Sourate: ĀLI ‘IMRĀN

Verset : 164

Certainly did AllŒh confer [great] favor upon the believers when He sent among them a Messenger from themselves, reciting to them His verses and purifying them and teaching them the Book [i.e., the QurÕŒn] and wisdom,[1] although they had been before in manifest error.

1- The Prophet's sunnah.

Sourate: AL‑MĀ’IDAH

Verset : 67

O Messenger, announce that which has been revealed to you from your Lord, and if you do not, then you have not conveyed His message. And AllŒh will protect you from the people. Indeed, AllŒh does not guide the disbelieving people.

Sourate: AL‑MĀ’IDAH

Verset : 92

And obey AllŒh and obey the Messenger and beware. And if you turn away then know that upon Our Messenger is only [the responsibility for] clear notification.

Sourate: AL‑MĀ’IDAH

Verset : 99

Not upon the Messenger is [responsibility] except [for] notification. And AllŒh knows whatever you reveal and whatever you conceal.

Sourate: AL‑AN‘ĀM

Verset : 14

Say, "Is it other than AllŒh I should take as a protector, Creator of the heavens and earth, while it is He who feeds and is not fed?" Say, [O Muúammad], "Indeed, I have been commanded to be the first [among you] who submit [to AllŒh] and [was commanded], 'Do not ever be of the polytheists."

Sourate: AL‑AN‘ĀM

Verset : 51

And warn by it [i.e., the QurÕŒn] those who fear that they will be gathered before their Lord for them besides Him will be no protector and no intercessor that they might become righteous.

Sourate: AL‑AN‘ĀM

Verset : 52

And do not send away those who call upon their Lord morning and afternoon, seeking His face [i.e., favor]. Not upon you is anything of their account and not upon them is anything of your account.[1] So were you to send them away, you would [then] be of the wrongdoers.

1- No one is held accountable for the deeds or intentions of another. That is left to AllŒh's judgement.

Sourate: AL‑AN‘ĀM

Verset : 106

Follow, [O Muúammad], what has been revealed to you from your Lord there is no deity except Him and turn away from those who associate others with AllŒh.

Sourate: AL‑AN‘ĀM

Verset : 107

But if AllŒh had willed, they would not have associated. And We have not appointed you over them as a guardian, nor are you a manager over them.[1]

1- The Prophet's duty did not go beyond delivery of the message.

Sourate: AL‑A‘RĀF

Verset : 157

Those who follow the Messenger, the unlettered prophet, whom they find written [i.e., described] in what they have of the Torah and the Gospel, who enjoins upon them what is right and prohibits them from what is wrong and makes lawful for them what is good and forbids them from what is evil and relieves them of their burden[1] and the shackles which were upon them.[2] So they who have believed in him, honored him, supported him and followed the light which was sent down with him it is those who will be the successful.

1- Difficulties in religious practice.
2- i.e., extreme measures previously required for repentance, and retribution without recourse to compensation.

Sourate: AL‑A‘RĀF

Verset : 184

Then do they not give thought? There is in their companion [i.e., Muúammad ()] no madness. He is not but a clear warner.

Sourate: AL‑ANFĀL

Verset : 65

O Prophet, urge the believers to battle. If there are among you twenty [who are] steadfast, they will overcome two hundred. And if there are among you one hundred [who are steadfast], they will overcome a thousand of those who have disbelieved because they are a people who do not understand.

Sourate: AT-TAWBAH

Verset : 73

O Prophet, fight against the disbelievers and the hypocrites and be harsh upon them. And their refuge is Hell, and wretched is the destination.

Sourate: AT-TAWBAH

Verset : 103

Take, [O Muúammad], from their wealth a charity by which you purify them and cause them increase, and invoke [AllŒh's blessings] upon them. Indeed, your invocations are reassurance for them. And AllŒh is Hearing and Knowing.

Sourate: AT-TAWBAH

Verset : 113

It is not for the Prophet and those who have believed to ask forgiveness for the polytheists, even if they were relatives, after it has become clear to them that they are companions of Hellfire.

Sourate: YŪNUS

Verset : 104

Say, [O Muúammad], "O people, if you are in doubt as to my religion then I do not worship those which you worship besides AllŒh; but I worship AllŒh, who causes your death. And I have been commanded to be of the believers

Sourate: YŪNUS

Verset : 105

And [commanded], 'Direct your face [i.e., self] toward the religion, inclining to truth, and never be of those who associate others with AllŒh;

Sourate: YŪNUS

Verset : 106

And do not invoke[1] besides AllŒh that which neither benefits you nor harms you, for if you did, then indeed you would be of the wrongdoers.'"[2]

1- i.e., worship.
2- See footnote to 10:95.

Sourate: YŪNUS

Verset : 109

And follow what is revealed to you, [O Muúammad], and be patient until AllŒh will judge. And He is the best of judges.

Sourate: HŪD

Verset : 2

[Through a messenger, saying], "Do not worship except AllŒh. Indeed, I am to you from Him a warner and a bringer of good tidings,"

Sourate: HŪD

Verset : 112

So remain on a right course as you have been commanded, [you] and those who have turned back with you [to AllŒh], and do not transgress. Indeed, He is Seeing of what you do.

Sourate: HŪD

Verset : 113

And do not incline toward those who do wrong, lest you be touched by the Fire, and you would not have other than AllŒh any protectors; then you would not be helped.

Sourate: HŪD

Verset : 114

And establish prayer at the two ends of the day and at the approach of the night. Indeed, good deeds do away with misdeeds. That is a reminder for those who remember.

Sourate: HŪD

Verset : 115

And be patient, for indeed, AllŒh does not allow to be lost the reward of those who do good.

Sourate: AR-RA‘D

Verset : 40

And whether We show you part of what We promise them or take you in death, upon you is only the [duty of] notification, and upon Us is the account.

Sourate: AL‑ḤIJR

Verset : 89

And say, "Indeed, I am the clear warner"

Sourate: AN-NAḤL

Verset : 82

But if they turn away, [O Muúammad] then only upon you is [responsibility for] clear notification.

Sourate: AN-NAḤL

Verset : 125

Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good instruction, and argue with them in a way that is best. Indeed, your Lord is most knowing of who has strayed from His way, and He is most knowing of who is [rightly] guided.
