Capítulo: HŪD  

Verso : 70

فَلَمَّا رَءَآ أَيۡدِيَهُمۡ لَا تَصِلُ إِلَيۡهِ نَكِرَهُمۡ وَأَوۡجَسَ مِنۡهُمۡ خِيفَةٗۚ قَالُواْ لَا تَخَفۡ إِنَّآ أُرۡسِلۡنَآ إِلَىٰ قَوۡمِ لُوطٖ

But when he saw their hands not reaching for it, he distrusted them and felt from them apprehension.[1] They said, "Fear not. We have been sent to the people of Lot."


1- Traditionally, if a guest refused to eat, it meant that he harbored ill will toward the host or intended him harm.


Capítulo: HŪD  

Verso : 71

وَٱمۡرَأَتُهُۥ قَآئِمَةٞ فَضَحِكَتۡ فَبَشَّرۡنَٰهَا بِإِسۡحَٰقَ وَمِن وَرَآءِ إِسۡحَٰقَ يَعۡقُوبَ

And his wife was standing, and she smiled.[1] Then We gave her good tidings of Isaac and after Isaac, Jacob.


1- In pleasure at the news of the forthcoming punishment of the evil people who denied Prophet Lot (upon him be peace).


Capítulo: HŪD  

Verso : 72

قَالَتۡ يَٰوَيۡلَتَىٰٓ ءَأَلِدُ وَأَنَا۠ عَجُوزٞ وَهَٰذَا بَعۡلِي شَيۡخًاۖ إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَشَيۡءٌ عَجِيبٞ

She said, "Woe to me![1] Shall I give birth while I am an old woman and this, my husband, is an old man? Indeed, this is an amazing thing!"


1- An expression of surprise and amazement.


Capítulo: HŪD  

Verso : 73

قَالُوٓاْ أَتَعۡجَبِينَ مِنۡ أَمۡرِ ٱللَّهِۖ رَحۡمَتُ ٱللَّهِ وَبَرَكَٰتُهُۥ عَلَيۡكُمۡ أَهۡلَ ٱلۡبَيۡتِۚ إِنَّهُۥ حَمِيدٞ مَّجِيدٞ

They said, "Are you amazed at the decree of AllŒh? May the mercy of AllŒh and His blessings be upon you, people of the house. Indeed, He is Praiseworthy and Honorable."



Capítulo: HŪD  

Verso : 74

فَلَمَّا ذَهَبَ عَنۡ إِبۡرَٰهِيمَ ٱلرَّوۡعُ وَجَآءَتۡهُ ٱلۡبُشۡرَىٰ يُجَٰدِلُنَا فِي قَوۡمِ لُوطٍ

And when the fright had left Abraham and the good tidings had reached him, he began to argue [i.e., plead] with Us[1] concerning the people of Lot.


1- i.e., with Our angels.


Capítulo: HŪD  

Verso : 75

إِنَّ إِبۡرَٰهِيمَ لَحَلِيمٌ أَوَّـٰهٞ مُّنِيبٞ

Indeed, Abraham was forbearing, grieving[1] and [frequently] returning [to AllŒh].


1- i.e., sighing or moaning during supplication out of grief for people and fear of AllŒh.


Capítulo: HŪD  

Verso : 76

يَـٰٓإِبۡرَٰهِيمُ أَعۡرِضۡ عَنۡ هَٰذَآۖ إِنَّهُۥ قَدۡ جَآءَ أَمۡرُ رَبِّكَۖ وَإِنَّهُمۡ ءَاتِيهِمۡ عَذَابٌ غَيۡرُ مَرۡدُودٖ

[The angels said], "O Abraham, give up this [plea]. Indeed, the command of your Lord has come, and indeed, there will reach them a punishment that cannot be repelled."



Capítulo: IBRĀHEEM 

Verso : 35

وَإِذۡ قَالَ إِبۡرَٰهِيمُ رَبِّ ٱجۡعَلۡ هَٰذَا ٱلۡبَلَدَ ءَامِنٗا وَٱجۡنُبۡنِي وَبَنِيَّ أَن نَّعۡبُدَ ٱلۡأَصۡنَامَ

And [mention, O Muúammad], when Abraham said, "My Lord, make this city [i.e., Makkah] secure and keep me and my sons away from worshipping idols.



Capítulo: IBRĀHEEM 

Verso : 36

رَبِّ إِنَّهُنَّ أَضۡلَلۡنَ كَثِيرٗا مِّنَ ٱلنَّاسِۖ فَمَن تَبِعَنِي فَإِنَّهُۥ مِنِّيۖ وَمَنۡ عَصَانِي فَإِنَّكَ غَفُورٞ رَّحِيمٞ

My Lord, indeed they have led astray many among the people. So whoever follows me then he is of me;[1] and whoever disobeys me indeed, You are [yet] Forgiving and Merciful.


1- i.e., of my religion.


Capítulo: IBRĀHEEM 

Verso : 37

رَّبَّنَآ إِنِّيٓ أَسۡكَنتُ مِن ذُرِّيَّتِي بِوَادٍ غَيۡرِ ذِي زَرۡعٍ عِندَ بَيۡتِكَ ٱلۡمُحَرَّمِ رَبَّنَا لِيُقِيمُواْ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ فَٱجۡعَلۡ أَفۡـِٔدَةٗ مِّنَ ٱلنَّاسِ تَهۡوِيٓ إِلَيۡهِمۡ وَٱرۡزُقۡهُم مِّنَ ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ لَعَلَّهُمۡ يَشۡكُرُونَ

Our Lord, I have settled some of my descendants in an uncultivated valley near Your sacred House, our Lord, that they may establish prayer. So make hearts among the people incline toward them and provide for them from the fruits that they might be grateful.



Capítulo: IBRĀHEEM 

Verso : 38

رَبَّنَآ إِنَّكَ تَعۡلَمُ مَا نُخۡفِي وَمَا نُعۡلِنُۗ وَمَا يَخۡفَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ مِن شَيۡءٖ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَلَا فِي ٱلسَّمَآءِ

Our Lord, indeed You know what we conceal and what we declare, and nothing is hidden from AllŒh on the earth or in the heaven.



Capítulo: IBRĀHEEM 

Verso : 39

ٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِ ٱلَّذِي وَهَبَ لِي عَلَى ٱلۡكِبَرِ إِسۡمَٰعِيلَ وَإِسۡحَٰقَۚ إِنَّ رَبِّي لَسَمِيعُ ٱلدُّعَآءِ

Praise to AllŒh, who has granted to me in old age Ishmael and Isaac. Indeed, my Lord is the Hearer of supplication.



Capítulo: IBRĀHEEM 

Verso : 40

رَبِّ ٱجۡعَلۡنِي مُقِيمَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةِ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِيۚ رَبَّنَا وَتَقَبَّلۡ دُعَآءِ

My Lord, make me an establisher of prayer, and [many] from my descendants. Our Lord, and accept my supplication.



Capítulo: IBRĀHEEM 

Verso : 41

رَبَّنَا ٱغۡفِرۡ لِي وَلِوَٰلِدَيَّ وَلِلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ يَوۡمَ يَقُومُ ٱلۡحِسَابُ

Our Lord, forgive me and my parents and the believers the Day the account is established."



Capítulo: AL‑ḤIJR 

Verso : 51

وَنَبِّئۡهُمۡ عَن ضَيۡفِ إِبۡرَٰهِيمَ

And inform them about the guests of Abraham,



Capítulo: AL‑ḤIJR 

Verso : 52

إِذۡ دَخَلُواْ عَلَيۡهِ فَقَالُواْ سَلَٰمٗا قَالَ إِنَّا مِنكُمۡ وَجِلُونَ

When they entered upon him and said, "Peace." [Abraham] said, "Indeed, we are fearful [i.e., apprehensive] of you."



Capítulo: AL‑ḤIJR 

Verso : 53

قَالُواْ لَا تَوۡجَلۡ إِنَّا نُبَشِّرُكَ بِغُلَٰمٍ عَلِيمٖ

[The angels] said, "Fear not. Indeed, we give you good tidings of a learned boy."



Capítulo: AL‑ḤIJR 

Verso : 54

قَالَ أَبَشَّرۡتُمُونِي عَلَىٰٓ أَن مَّسَّنِيَ ٱلۡكِبَرُ فَبِمَ تُبَشِّرُونَ

He said, "Have you given me good tidings although old age has come upon me? Then of what [wonder] do you inform?"



Capítulo: AL‑ḤIJR 

Verso : 55

قَالُواْ بَشَّرۡنَٰكَ بِٱلۡحَقِّ فَلَا تَكُن مِّنَ ٱلۡقَٰنِطِينَ

They said, "We have given you good tidings in truth, so do not be of the despairing."



Capítulo: AL‑ḤIJR 

Verso : 56

قَالَ وَمَن يَقۡنَطُ مِن رَّحۡمَةِ رَبِّهِۦٓ إِلَّا ٱلضَّآلُّونَ

He said, "And who despairs of the mercy of his Lord except for those astray?"



Capítulo: AN-NAḤL 

Verso : 120

إِنَّ إِبۡرَٰهِيمَ كَانَ أُمَّةٗ قَانِتٗا لِّلَّهِ حَنِيفٗا وَلَمۡ يَكُ مِنَ ٱلۡمُشۡرِكِينَ

Indeed, Abraham was a [comprehensive] leader,[1] devoutly obedient to AllŒh, inclining toward truth, and he was not of those who associate others with AllŒh.


1- i.e., embodying all the excellent qualities which make one an example to be followed.


Capítulo: AN-NAḤL 

Verso : 121

شَاكِرٗا لِّأَنۡعُمِهِۚ ٱجۡتَبَىٰهُ وَهَدَىٰهُ إِلَىٰ صِرَٰطٖ مُّسۡتَقِيمٖ

[He was] grateful for His favors. He [i.e., AllŒh] chose him and guided him to a straight path.



Capítulo: AN-NAḤL 

Verso : 122

وَءَاتَيۡنَٰهُ فِي ٱلدُّنۡيَا حَسَنَةٗۖ وَإِنَّهُۥ فِي ٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ لَمِنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ

And We gave him good in this world, and indeed, in the Hereafter he will be among the righteous.



Capítulo: MARYAM 

Verso : 41

وَٱذۡكُرۡ فِي ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ إِبۡرَٰهِيمَۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ صِدِّيقٗا نَّبِيًّا

And mention in the Book [the story of] Abraham. Indeed, he was a man of truth and a prophet.



Capítulo: MARYAM 

Verso : 42

إِذۡ قَالَ لِأَبِيهِ يَـٰٓأَبَتِ لِمَ تَعۡبُدُ مَا لَا يَسۡمَعُ وَلَا يُبۡصِرُ وَلَا يُغۡنِي عَنكَ شَيۡـٔٗا

[Mention] when he said to his father, "O my father, why do you worship that which does not hear and does not see and will not benefit you at all?



Capítulo: MARYAM 

Verso : 43

يَـٰٓأَبَتِ إِنِّي قَدۡ جَآءَنِي مِنَ ٱلۡعِلۡمِ مَا لَمۡ يَأۡتِكَ فَٱتَّبِعۡنِيٓ أَهۡدِكَ صِرَٰطٗا سَوِيّٗا

O my father, indeed there has come to me of knowledge that which has not come to you, so follow me; I will guide you to an even path.



Capítulo: MARYAM 

Verso : 44

يَـٰٓأَبَتِ لَا تَعۡبُدِ ٱلشَّيۡطَٰنَۖ إِنَّ ٱلشَّيۡطَٰنَ كَانَ لِلرَّحۡمَٰنِ عَصِيّٗا

O my father, do not worship [i.e., obey] Satan. Indeed Satan has ever been, to the Most Merciful, disobedient.



Capítulo: MARYAM 

Verso : 45

يَـٰٓأَبَتِ إِنِّيٓ أَخَافُ أَن يَمَسَّكَ عَذَابٞ مِّنَ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ فَتَكُونَ لِلشَّيۡطَٰنِ وَلِيّٗا

O my father, indeed I fear that there will touch you a punishment from the Most Merciful so you would be to Satan a companion [in Hellfire]."



Capítulo: MARYAM 

Verso : 46

قَالَ أَرَاغِبٌ أَنتَ عَنۡ ءَالِهَتِي يَـٰٓإِبۡرَٰهِيمُۖ لَئِن لَّمۡ تَنتَهِ لَأَرۡجُمَنَّكَۖ وَٱهۡجُرۡنِي مَلِيّٗا

[His father] said, "Have you no desire for my gods, O Abraham? If you do not desist, I will surely stone you, so avoid me a prolonged time."



Capítulo: MARYAM 

Verso : 47

قَالَ سَلَٰمٌ عَلَيۡكَۖ سَأَسۡتَغۡفِرُ لَكَ رَبِّيٓۖ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ بِي حَفِيّٗا

[Abraham] said, "Peace [i.e., safety] will be upon you.[1] I will ask forgiveness for you of my Lord. Indeed, He is ever gracious to me.


1- Meaning "You are secure" or "I will not harm you."
