Sure: AL‑MUDDATHTHIR 

Vers : 1

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلۡمُدَّثِّرُ

O you who covers himself [with a garment],[1]


1- Referring to the Prophet ().


Sure: AL‑MUDDATHTHIR 

Vers : 2

قُمۡ فَأَنذِرۡ

Arise and warn.



Sure: AL‑MUDDATHTHIR 

Vers : 3

وَرَبَّكَ فَكَبِّرۡ

And your Lord glorify.



Sure: AL‑MUDDATHTHIR 

Vers : 4

وَثِيَابَكَ فَطَهِّرۡ

And your clothing purify.



Sure: AL‑MUDDATHTHIR 

Vers : 5

وَٱلرُّجۡزَ فَٱهۡجُرۡ

And uncleanliness[1] avoid.


1- Specifically, idols or generally, bad conduct and morals.


Sure: AL‑MUDDATHTHIR 

Vers : 6

وَلَا تَمۡنُن تَسۡتَكۡثِرُ

And do not confer favor to acquire more[1].


1- An alternative meaning is "Do not consider any favor you have conferred to be great."


Sure: AL‑MUDDATHTHIR 

Vers : 7

وَلِرَبِّكَ فَٱصۡبِرۡ

But for your Lord be patient.



Sure: AL‑MUDDATHTHIR 

Vers : 8

فَإِذَا نُقِرَ فِي ٱلنَّاقُورِ

And when the trumpet is blown,



Sure: AL‑MUDDATHTHIR 

Vers : 9

فَذَٰلِكَ يَوۡمَئِذٖ يَوۡمٌ عَسِيرٌ

That Day will be a difficult day



Sure: AL‑MUDDATHTHIR 

Vers : 10

عَلَى ٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَ غَيۡرُ يَسِيرٖ

For the disbelievers not easy.



Sure: AL‑MUDDATHTHIR 

Vers : 11

ذَرۡنِي وَمَنۡ خَلَقۡتُ وَحِيدٗا

Leave Me with the one I created alone[1]


1- i.e., without wealth or children. The reference is to al-Waleed bin al-Mugheerah, who after inclining toward the QurÕŒn, denied it publicly in order to win the approval of the Quraysh.


Sure: AL‑MUDDATHTHIR 

Vers : 12

وَجَعَلۡتُ لَهُۥ مَالٗا مَّمۡدُودٗا

And to whom I granted extensive wealth



Sure: AL‑MUDDATHTHIR 

Vers : 13

وَبَنِينَ شُهُودٗا

And children present [with him]



Sure: AL‑MUDDATHTHIR 

Vers : 14

وَمَهَّدتُّ لَهُۥ تَمۡهِيدٗا

And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life].



Sure: AL‑MUDDATHTHIR 

Vers : 15

ثُمَّ يَطۡمَعُ أَنۡ أَزِيدَ

Then he desires that I should add more.



Sure: AL‑MUDDATHTHIR 

Vers : 16

كَلَّآۖ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ لِأٓيَٰتِنَا عَنِيدٗا

No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate.



Sure: AL‑MUDDATHTHIR 

Vers : 17

سَأُرۡهِقُهُۥ صَعُودًا

I will cover him with arduous torment.



Sure: AL‑MUDDATHTHIR 

Vers : 18

إِنَّهُۥ فَكَّرَ وَقَدَّرَ

Indeed, he thought and deliberated.[1]


1- About what he would say concerning the QurÕŒn and how he might discredit the Prophet ().


Sure: AL‑MUDDATHTHIR 

Vers : 19

فَقُتِلَ كَيۡفَ قَدَّرَ

So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated.



Sure: AL‑MUDDATHTHIR 

Vers : 20

ثُمَّ قُتِلَ كَيۡفَ قَدَّرَ

Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated.



Sure: AL‑MUDDATHTHIR 

Vers : 21

ثُمَّ نَظَرَ

Then he considered [again];



Sure: AL‑MUDDATHTHIR 

Vers : 22

ثُمَّ عَبَسَ وَبَسَرَ

Then he frowned and scowled;



Sure: AL‑MUDDATHTHIR 

Vers : 23

ثُمَّ أَدۡبَرَ وَٱسۡتَكۡبَرَ

Then he turned back and was arrogant



Sure: AL‑MUDDATHTHIR 

Vers : 24

فَقَالَ إِنۡ هَٰذَآ إِلَّا سِحۡرٞ يُؤۡثَرُ

And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others].



Sure: AL‑MUDDATHTHIR 

Vers : 25

إِنۡ هَٰذَآ إِلَّا قَوۡلُ ٱلۡبَشَرِ

This is not but the word of a human being."



Sure: AL‑MUDDATHTHIR 

Vers : 26

سَأُصۡلِيهِ سَقَرَ

I will drive him into Saqar.[1]


1- One of the proper names of Hell.


Sure: AL‑MUDDATHTHIR 

Vers : 27

وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا سَقَرُ

And what can make you know what is Saqar?



Sure: AL‑MUDDATHTHIR 

Vers : 28

لَا تُبۡقِي وَلَا تَذَرُ

It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned],



Sure: AL‑MUDDATHTHIR 

Vers : 29

لَوَّاحَةٞ لِّلۡبَشَرِ

Altering [i.e., blackening] the skins.



Sure: AL‑MUDDATHTHIR 

Vers : 30

عَلَيۡهَا تِسۡعَةَ عَشَرَ

Over it are nineteen [angels].
