In a seat of honor near a Sovereign, Perfect in Ability.[1]
1- Who accomplishes whatever He wills whenever He wills.
But for he who has feared the position of his Lord[1] are two gardens –
1- An alternative meaning is "the standing [for account] before his Lord."
And the forerunners, the forerunners[1] –
1- The words can also be understood as a complete sentence, i.e., "The forerunners [in good deeds] are the forerunners [in entering Paradise]."
Those are the ones brought near [to AllŒh]
In the Gardens of Pleasure,
Indeed, for the righteous with their Lord are the Gardens of Pleasure.
Those who are constant in their prayer
And those within whose wealth is a known right[1]
1- i.e., a specified share, meaning the obligatory zakŒh.
For the petitioner and the deprived –
And those who believe in the Day of Recompense
And those who are fearful of the punishment of their Lord –
Indeed, the punishment of their Lord is not that from which one is safe –
And those who guard their private parts
Except from their wives or those their right hands possess,[1] for indeed, they are not to be blamed –
1- i.e., female slaves.
But whoever seeks beyond that, then they are the transgressors –
And those who are to their trusts and promises attentive.
And those who are in their testimonies upright
And those who [carefully] maintain their prayer:
They will be in gardens,[1] honored.
1- In Paradise.
Indeed, the righteous will be among shades and springs
And fruits from whatever they desire,
[Being told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you used to do."
Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.
But as for he who feared the position of his Lord[1] and prevented the soul from [unlawful] inclination,
1- See footnote to 55:46
Then indeed, Paradise will be [his] refuge.
Indeed, the righteous will be in pleasure
On adorned couches, observing.
You will recognize in their faces the radiance of pleasure.
Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds will have gardens beneath which rivers flow. That is the great attainment.
[To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul,
