القِيَامَةِ Al-QiyŒmah 1 الآية :

لَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِيَوۡمِ ٱلۡقِيَٰمَةِ

I swear by the Day of Resurrection

القِيَامَةِ Al-QiyŒmah 2 الآية :

وَلَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِٱلنَّفۡسِ ٱللَّوَّامَةِ

And I swear by the reproaching soul[1] [to the certainty of resurrection].

1- i.e., that of the believer, which blames him when he falls into sin or error.

القِيَامَةِ Al-QiyŒmah 3 الآية :

أَيَحۡسَبُ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ أَلَّن نَّجۡمَعَ عِظَامَهُۥ

Does man think that We will not assemble his bones?

القِيَامَةِ Al-QiyŒmah 4 الآية :

بَلَىٰ قَٰدِرِينَ عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّسَوِّيَ بَنَانَهُۥ

Yes. [We are] Able [even] to proportion his fingertips.

القِيَامَةِ Al-QiyŒmah 5 الآية :

بَلۡ يُرِيدُ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ لِيَفۡجُرَ أَمَامَهُۥ

But man desires to continue in sin.[1]

1- Literally, "to sin ahead of him." This refers to the disbeliever, who denies the Day of Account.

القِيَامَةِ Al-QiyŒmah 6 الآية :

يَسۡـَٔلُ أَيَّانَ يَوۡمُ ٱلۡقِيَٰمَةِ

He asks, "When is the Day of Resurrection?"

القِيَامَةِ Al-QiyŒmah 7 الآية :

فَإِذَا بَرِقَ ٱلۡبَصَرُ

So when vision is dazzled.

القِيَامَةِ Al-QiyŒmah 8 الآية :

وَخَسَفَ ٱلۡقَمَرُ

And the moon darkens.

القِيَامَةِ Al-QiyŒmah 9 الآية :

وَجُمِعَ ٱلشَّمۡسُ وَٱلۡقَمَرُ

And the sun and the moon are joined,

القِيَامَةِ Al-QiyŒmah 10 الآية :

يَقُولُ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ يَوۡمَئِذٍ أَيۡنَ ٱلۡمَفَرُّ

Man will say on that Day, "Where is the [place of] escape?"

القِيَامَةِ Al-QiyŒmah 11 الآية :

كَلَّا لَا وَزَرَ

No! There is no refuge.

القِيَامَةِ Al-QiyŒmah 12 الآية :

إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوۡمَئِذٍ ٱلۡمُسۡتَقَرُّ

To your Lord, that Day, is the [place of] permanence.

القِيَامَةِ Al-QiyŒmah 13 الآية :

يُنَبَّؤُاْ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ يَوۡمَئِذِۭ بِمَا قَدَّمَ وَأَخَّرَ

Man will be informed that Day of what he sent ahead[1] and kept back.[2]

1- i.e., his deeds, which await him in the Hereafter.
2- i.e., that which he did not do or which he delayed.

القِيَامَةِ Al-QiyŒmah 14 الآية :

بَلِ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ عَلَىٰ نَفۡسِهِۦ بَصِيرَةٞ

Rather, man, against himself, will be a witness,[1]

1- As described in 36:65 and 41:20-23.

القِيَامَةِ Al-QiyŒmah 15 الآية :

وَلَوۡ أَلۡقَىٰ مَعَاذِيرَهُۥ

Even if he presents his excuses.

القِيَامَةِ Al-QiyŒmah 16 الآية :

لَا تُحَرِّكۡ بِهِۦ لِسَانَكَ لِتَعۡجَلَ بِهِۦٓ

Move not your tongue with it, [O Muúammad], to hasten with it [i.e., recitation of the QurÕŒn].

القِيَامَةِ Al-QiyŒmah 17 الآية :

إِنَّ عَلَيۡنَا جَمۡعَهُۥ وَقُرۡءَانَهُۥ

Indeed, upon Us is its collection [in your heart] and [to make possible] its recitation.

القِيَامَةِ Al-QiyŒmah 18 الآية :

فَإِذَا قَرَأۡنَٰهُ فَٱتَّبِعۡ قُرۡءَانَهُۥ

So when We have recited it [through Gabriel], then follow its recitation.

القِيَامَةِ Al-QiyŒmah 19 الآية :

ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيۡنَا بَيَانَهُۥ

Then upon Us is its clarification [to you].

القِيَامَةِ Al-QiyŒmah 20 الآية :

كَلَّا بَلۡ تُحِبُّونَ ٱلۡعَاجِلَةَ

No! But you [i.e., mankind] love the immediate

القِيَامَةِ Al-QiyŒmah 21 الآية :

وَتَذَرُونَ ٱلۡأٓخِرَةَ

And leave [i.e., neglect] the Hereafter.

القِيَامَةِ Al-QiyŒmah 22 الآية :

وُجُوهٞ يَوۡمَئِذٖ نَّاضِرَةٌ

[Some] faces, that Day, will be radiant,

القِيَامَةِ Al-QiyŒmah 23 الآية :

إِلَىٰ رَبِّهَا نَاظِرَةٞ

Looking at their Lord.[1]

1- The people of Paradise will actually see their Creator in the Hereafter.

القِيَامَةِ Al-QiyŒmah 24 الآية :

وَوُجُوهٞ يَوۡمَئِذِۭ بَاسِرَةٞ

And [some] faces, that Day, will be contorted,

القِيَامَةِ Al-QiyŒmah 25 الآية :

تَظُنُّ أَن يُفۡعَلَ بِهَا فَاقِرَةٞ

Expecting that there will be done to them [something] backbreaking.

القِيَامَةِ Al-QiyŒmah 26 الآية :

كَلَّآ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلتَّرَاقِيَ

No! When it [i.e., the soul] has reached the collar bones[1]

1- At the time it is about to leave the body when one is on the verge of death.

القِيَامَةِ Al-QiyŒmah 27 الآية :

وَقِيلَ مَنۡۜ رَاقٖ

And it is said, "Who will cure [him]?"

القِيَامَةِ Al-QiyŒmah 28 الآية :

وَظَنَّ أَنَّهُ ٱلۡفِرَاقُ

And he [i.e., the dying one] is certain that it is the [time of] separation

القِيَامَةِ Al-QiyŒmah 29 الآية :

وَٱلۡتَفَّتِ ٱلسَّاقُ بِٱلسَّاقِ

And the leg is wound about the leg,[1]

1- From the difficulties the person faces at death or his sudden awareness of the realities of both this world and the Hereafter. It may also refer to his shrouding after death.

القِيَامَةِ Al-QiyŒmah 30 الآية :

إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوۡمَئِذٍ ٱلۡمَسَاقُ

To your Lord, that Day, will be the procession.[1]

1- Literally, "driving" or "herding" or "the place to which one is driven."
