وَٱلَّذِينَ فِيٓ أَمۡوَٰلِهِمۡ حَقّٞ مَّعۡلُومٞ
And those within whose wealth is a known right[1]
1- i.e., a specified share, meaning the obligatory zakŒh.
وَتُحِبُّونَ ٱلۡمَالَ حُبّٗا جَمّٗا
And you love wealth with immense love.
يَقُولُ أَهۡلَكۡتُ مَالٗا لُّبَدًا
He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance."
أَيَحۡسَبُ أَن لَّمۡ يَرَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌ
Does he think that no one has seen him?
وَأَمَّا مَنۢ بَخِلَ وَٱسۡتَغۡنَىٰ
But as for he who withholds and considers himself free of need
وَكَذَّبَ بِٱلۡحُسۡنَىٰ
And denies the best [reward],
فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُۥ لِلۡعُسۡرَىٰ
We will ease him toward difficulty.
وَمَا يُغۡنِي عَنۡهُ مَالُهُۥٓ إِذَا تَرَدَّىٰٓ
And what will his wealth avail him when he falls?[1]
1- i.e., when he dies or is destroyed. It can also mean when he falls into the Hellfire.
ٱلَّذِي يُؤۡتِي مَالَهُۥ يَتَزَكَّىٰ
[He] who gives [from] his wealth to purify himself
ٱلَّذِي جَمَعَ مَالٗا وَعَدَّدَهُۥ
Who collects wealth and [continuously] counts it.[1]
1- Rather than spending in the way of AllŒh.
يَحۡسَبُ أَنَّ مَالَهُۥٓ أَخۡلَدَهُۥ
He thinks that his wealth will make him immortal.
مَآ أَغۡنَىٰ عَنۡهُ مَالُهُۥ وَمَا كَسَبَ
His wealth will not avail him or that which he gained.
