الرحمن Ar-Rahmân 1 الآية :

ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنُ

The Most Merciful

الرحمن Ar-Rahmân 2 الآية :

عَلَّمَ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ

Taught the QurÕŒn,

الرحمن Ar-Rahmân 3 الآية :

خَلَقَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ

Created man,

الرحمن Ar-Rahmân 4 الآية :

عَلَّمَهُ ٱلۡبَيَانَ

[And] taught him eloquence.

الرحمن Ar-Rahmân 5 الآية :

ٱلشَّمۡسُ وَٱلۡقَمَرُ بِحُسۡبَانٖ

The sun and the moon [move] by precise calculation,

الرحمن Ar-Rahmân 6 الآية :

وَٱلنَّجۡمُ وَٱلشَّجَرُ يَسۡجُدَانِ

And the stars and trees prostrate.[1]

1- They submit obediently to the laws of AllŒh. See 22:18. An additional meaning of "najm" is vegetation of a kind without a trunk, stalk or stem.

الرحمن Ar-Rahmân 7 الآية :

وَٱلسَّمَآءَ رَفَعَهَا وَوَضَعَ ٱلۡمِيزَانَ

And the heaven He raised and imposed the balance

الرحمن Ar-Rahmân 8 الآية :

أَلَّا تَطۡغَوۡاْ فِي ٱلۡمِيزَانِ

That you not transgress within the balance.

الرحمن Ar-Rahmân 9 الآية :

وَأَقِيمُواْ ٱلۡوَزۡنَ بِٱلۡقِسۡطِ وَلَا تُخۡسِرُواْ ٱلۡمِيزَانَ

And establish weight in justice and do not make deficient the balance.

الرحمن Ar-Rahmân 10 الآية :

وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَضَعَهَا لِلۡأَنَامِ

And the earth He laid [out] for the creatures.

الرحمن Ar-Rahmân 11 الآية :

فِيهَا فَٰكِهَةٞ وَٱلنَّخۡلُ ذَاتُ ٱلۡأَكۡمَامِ

Therein is fruit and palm trees having sheaths [of dates]

الرحمن Ar-Rahmân 12 الآية :

وَٱلۡحَبُّ ذُو ٱلۡعَصۡفِ وَٱلرَّيۡحَانُ

And grain having husks and scented plants.

الرحمن Ar-Rahmân 13 الآية :

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?[1]

1- Literally, "you two," addressing the species of mankind and jinn.

الرحمن Ar-Rahmân 14 الآية :

خَلَقَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ مِن صَلۡصَٰلٖ كَٱلۡفَخَّارِ

He created man from clay like [that of] pottery.

الرحمن Ar-Rahmân 15 الآية :

وَخَلَقَ ٱلۡجَآنَّ مِن مَّارِجٖ مِّن نَّارٖ

And He created the jinn from a smokeless flame of fire.

الرحمن Ar-Rahmân 16 الآية :

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

الرحمن Ar-Rahmân 17 الآية :

رَبُّ ٱلۡمَشۡرِقَيۡنِ وَرَبُّ ٱلۡمَغۡرِبَيۡنِ

[He is] Lord of the two sunrises and Lord of the two sunsets.[1]

1- i.e., the points of sunrise in the east and sunset in the west in both summer and winter.

الرحمن Ar-Rahmân 18 الآية :

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

الرحمن Ar-Rahmân 19 الآية :

مَرَجَ ٱلۡبَحۡرَيۡنِ يَلۡتَقِيَانِ

He released the two seas,[1] meeting [one another];

1- Two bodies of water or two sea waters of distinct characteristics.

الرحمن Ar-Rahmân 20 الآية :

بَيۡنَهُمَا بَرۡزَخٞ لَّا يَبۡغِيَانِ

Between them is a barrier so neither of them transgresses.

الرحمن Ar-Rahmân 21 الآية :

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

الرحمن Ar-Rahmân 22 الآية :

يَخۡرُجُ مِنۡهُمَا ٱللُّؤۡلُؤُ وَٱلۡمَرۡجَانُ

From both of them emerge pearl and coral.

الرحمن Ar-Rahmân 23 الآية :

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

الرحمن Ar-Rahmân 24 الآية :

وَلَهُ ٱلۡجَوَارِ ٱلۡمُنشَـَٔاتُ فِي ٱلۡبَحۡرِ كَٱلۡأَعۡلَٰمِ

And to Him belong the ships [with sails] elevated in the sea like mountains.

الرحمن Ar-Rahmân 25 الآية :

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

الرحمن Ar-Rahmân 26 الآية :

كُلُّ مَنۡ عَلَيۡهَا فَانٖ

Everyone upon it [i.e., the earth] will perish,

الرحمن Ar-Rahmân 27 الآية :

وَيَبۡقَىٰ وَجۡهُ رَبِّكَ ذُو ٱلۡجَلَٰلِ وَٱلۡإِكۡرَامِ

And there will remain the Face[1] of your Lord, Owner of Majesty and Honor.

الرحمن Ar-Rahmân 28 الآية :

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

الرحمن Ar-Rahmân 29 الآية :

يَسۡـَٔلُهُۥ مَن فِي ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ كُلَّ يَوۡمٍ هُوَ فِي شَأۡنٖ

Whoever is within the heavens and earth asks Him; every day He is in [i.e., bringing about] a matter.[1]

1- For each of His creatures.

الرحمن Ar-Rahmân 30 الآية :

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
